![]() Double check the road before you go or take a taxi. Our tour started with the walk from the port area to the Native Choice office. We both thoroughly enjoyed this very interesting excursion and have no hesitation in recommending Native Choice Tours to others. After carefully ensuring that we had all seen enough of the site, Lilia took us back to the bus for us to be taken back right to the port entrance in plenty of time to re-board the ship. She was also careful in taking good care of those with walking difficulties, including my wife, accompanying them, without any rush, on easier routes to the top of the temples. Lilia continued to give us more information whilst accompanying our small group around the whole site, answering all our questions very thoroughly and pointing out that there is still much more for the archaeologists to uncover. At the entrance there are toilets and a small shopping area selling local produce. Both my wife (who is a lecturer herself) and I were very impressed - full marks to Lilia! We were also very impressed with the Chacchoben site, which is quite extensive, and has been very tastefully prepared. Lilia delivered this information in absolutely perfect English with a very knowledgeable, relaxed and interesting style. The 50 minute bus ride passed so quickly as she gave us masses of information, complemented with photographs, about the local flora and fauna as well as the Mayan culture which was the principal reason for us taking this cruise. Over the years we have been on a number of interesting tours but I must say that Lilia ranks as the very best tour guide. Lilia, a very well educated local young lady, was absolutely brilliant from the start. ![]() In the bus, Lilia Martinez introduced herself as our tour guide and handed out complimentary bottles of water. However, we arrived at the office in good time, were checked in with wrist bands very courteously and immediately boarded a small bus with several others. It is a 10/15 minute walk from the port so we disembarked promptly as my wife has breathing difficulties and walks very slowly. For the call at Costa Maya we booked a tour of Chacchoben (the land of the red corn!) with Native Choice Tours and are SO glad we did! Right from the outset this company handled our booking very professionally and gave us detailed directions to their office meeting point. We prefer to pre-book our excursions at each port of call with local companies as we find those offered by the cruise lines are expensive, crowded and impersonal. My wife and I (a middle-aged couple) have recently returned to the UK from a holiday in Florida which we commenced with a cruise on NCL Dawn from Tampa.
